2013 CSL Cup

Post by Squeezy Cheesey Peas »

Interesting results at the weekend!
Well done to WG for showing they are still a force majeur and clinching a nail biter...
Who are the favourites now and who are the dark horses for an upset?

Well done to the last 8 teams that have made the 1/4 finals. Very difficult to pick the winner as it will all come down to the draw. This is the way that I see it:

Pool 1 - Grads Red 1A / Mercedes 1A / Uni white 1A / Windsor 2A

Pool 2 - Immanuel 2B / Mount Barker 2A / Rostrevor 1B / Rostrevor 3

Pool 1 I think are the top 4 teams. These 4 teams will be hoping to draw a team from Pool 2 for the next round. All teams in Pool 2 will be hoping to avoid Pool 1. There is only one certainty - Rostrevor 1B cant play Rostrevor 3.

A game that I will never forget: Unley 3 v Rostrevor 3 - Cup Game - Do my best to keep it simple.

Our Game was meant to kickoff at 230pm. The game before us went to extra time - ( Unley 1B v Immanuel 2B ) Therefore our game didnt kickoff to just after 315pm.
Halftime - Unley(3) 0 - 1 Rostrevor (3) - Penalty - Soft
2nd Half - Rostrevor 2 nil up / Rostrevor 2-1 up. Unley equalize with last play of the game to make it 2-2 and send the game to extra time.
Coaches agree to have 10min halves as we are running out of light.
1st half Extra time - Rostrevor up 3-2 through and Own Goal.
2nd half - Unley rewared a very soft penalty. Unley Miss. Referee adds on approximatley 4-5 minutes of injury time and Unley score in last play of the half to force penalties.
It is now approximatley 530pm and its dark. There is no way we can take penalties. Luckly we are at Unley's ground and they turn on the training lights to light up 1 goal. If this happened at our ground I am not sure what would of happened as none of our playing pitches have lights.
Unley start off on penalties:
After 3 penalties per team - Unley lead 1-0 - keepers are making saves / Players are missing the goals totally.
After 4 penalties per team - Unley lead 2-1
After 5 penalties per team - 2-2 - Going to Southern Death.
After 6 penalties per team - 2-3 to Rostrevor. Rostrevor win the game.

I didnt know what to think at that time. We won but it was so close to being dumped out of the cup.

This was a game that both teams will remember for a long time. Played in very good spirits.

We will see what the draw brings for the 1/4 finals.

Sounds exactly like the Sacred Heart vs WG game.

0-0 at half time
3-3 at full time (with WG equalizing in the last minute)
4-4 at extra time (with WG equalizing with a pen in the last minute)

WG win on Pens after thier keeper saves 2

Excuse my lack of knowledge on this but is it a CSL rule that clubs cannot play against each other in the cup Chelsea??
Didn't realise that although it would always be the draw of choice for same club teams to avoid each other!!
It really has opened up into two distinct groups with the only point of debate being which WG turn up for the next round. They have been massivley inconsistent going from defeats in games that I would have had them down as 'certs' through to amazing wins against a strong 1A side....
I have a sneaky feeling that we haven't seen the last "all Div 1" ties yet either so a real chance for the battlers to get into the semi's
Whatever happens, well done to all in the last 8 and heres to an equally exciting Round 4

Yeah i'm pretty sure Rostrevor teams can meet whenever... So draw should be wide open.
Great to see some teams from the lower divs through to the quarter finals too. Well done!

Teams from the same club are not allowed to play one another in the Cup
until it is unavoidable. At the draw a team will go back into the hat if it is drawn against
a team from its own club.

I think the draw will be on Thursday 27 June as I believe there
will be a delegates' meeting that evening.
