Cup Rd / Catch Up Game 1A

Post by chelsea »

Cup Rd 1/4 Finals.

Mercedes 1B v SHOC 1A

SHOC 1A should win this one but it wont be easy. Mercedes 1B are top of their league and are doing well. Draw specialists. Draw at halftime but SHOC will go on from their.

SHOC 1A - 4-1

Windsor 2A - Regency 1A
2 very diferent styles of play. Hard to pick a winner as I havnt seen Windsor this year.
Regency dont travel too well but are getting better. Grounds should be perfect. Need a good referee for this one.Tip for Windsor - Watch the late subs that come on. Very fast.

Regency 3-2

Unley 1A - Pulteney 1A
Unley in need of a wine after dropping their last 2 games. Couple weeks ago you would of tipped Unley easily but now things are different. Pulteney also beat Unley at the start of the year in league.
I go with Unley. If they lose this then I am sure Balotelli will ask me to tip against them. Maybe Unley rise to the occasion when I tip against them. Have not tipped a correct Unley game yet.

Unley - 3-1

Uni White 1A - Pembroke 3
Uni White coming out of a bad week against Grads Red. Pembroke (3) might have a few A grade players in their cup team which will make things a bit more difficult for Uni White.

Uni White 1A - 2-0

1A - Catch Up Game. Grads Red v Rostrevor.

Normally everyone wants to beat Rostrevor and I am sure Grads Red do to. This is a week where the rest of the CSL will be going for Rostrevor. Not because people like them but to hopefully prevent Grads Red opening up a gap at the top.

Looking forwrad to this game as it will be interesting to see how good Grads Red are. This is Rostrevors final chance to have a crack at the league title even though they need to win every game from here.

Grads Red have done really well so far and look quick and dangerous in their attacking half. Grads Red are the favourites.

Grads Red - 3-1 Win - More then happy to get this tip wrong though.

MASSIVE game with Grads Red..... I put my mickey mouse money on them to get a real hard win..... A win = pole position for the title as the last 2 weeks + next 2/3 weeks are the time were teams struggle for numbers / results!!!!
Game of the round FULL STOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I went and checked out Unley 1A vs Pulteney 1A today - a great game to watch as a neutral supporter. Unley scored first before I got there and seemed to dominate the first half hour, then Pulteney got on top for the rest of the half but couldn't put it away. 1-0 at HT. Again Unley were controlling the game but about halfway through the half their keeper had a bit of a brain snap and caught the ball well outside the area (I don't think he realised he was still outside the box). A good shot from the resulting free kick made it 1-1 and it seemed pretty even from then on. 1-1 FT. Unley were lucky to receive and convert what looked like a dodgy penalty in the first half of extra time, and Pulteney couldn't pull it back. 2-1 AET. I don't think Pulteney deserved to win it but they probably should have gotten their chance in a shootout.

The referee copped more than he deserved but there were a few interesting moments. First one was a Pulteney handball in the box that the ref gave as a Pulteney free kick instead of a penalty to Unley! It would have been a pretty harsh call though since it was shanked at him by his own player. I also thought Pulteney could have had a penalty in the second half when their striker got taken out (I think he may have been taken to hospital with sore ribs, hope he's ok). Finally, Unley's penalty didn't look like much but I guess that's football.

One last comment - I love a bit of banter on the sidelines but I think a few of the Unley mothers had one or two too many ciders!

Well done Mr Chelsea. I think you may have predicted every winner correctly, with one or two correct scores too. If so, that's 4 div 1A teams left in the Cup at the semi-final stage for the first time in a few years. And you've finally got an Unley result correct. :D

Big win for Grads Red in the A's. Shame Rostrevor couldn't take some points off them to keep things close at the top, but a 4 point lead could disappear very quickly given how closely matched all the div 1A teams seem to be. Regency are now showing signs of being a team that could dent other team's hopes. Any team still to play them away could have a nervous time on their hands.

I thought Rostrevor B's were meant to have played Uni White B's mid-week last week. Did that go ahead? The updated table suggests it didn't.

From what I heard that mid week game was postponed due to Burton being unplayable - can anyone confirm? And how is a 2 year old purpose built soccer pitch unplayable?

i believe they had a STIC tournament on it and its not recovered due to the heavy rains. Every pitch has trouble with too much water.

Yeah, a day's worth of punishment by a bunch of 12-year olds will kill off most pitches :D

Some great results (I got 3 out of 4 cup tie forecasts correct ... that's in the CUP thread on the CUP board, by the way ;)):

Really pleased for the Eagles - Not too many beat Gardens, especially at their place (sadly I was banned from attending ... far too much shopping to do, apparently ...) - Should help Eagles confidence and help see them safe in D1A as well. Neutral venues for the semis ... hopefully the Eagles travel and will give whoever they draw a decent game.

Other results as expected, though looks to have been a good effort from both MERCs 1B and Pultney 1A (thanks for the little report, above, we should all try to do more of that).

D1A: Fantastic win for the Reds. I can't see them slipping up, so it's going to be down to those teams closest to them, to get something from those games. Some crackers to come over the next 8 weeks or so.

Good even-handed match report DP, there was an element of luck in all three goals and some good football from both sides.

Pulteney's forward ended up in Surgery with a busted spleen but he's recovering well now. There was clearly no intent from Unley's defenders to injure, it was a freak accident, it's just a shame one of our best players will be out for 6 months and off work for some time, but that's football I guess.

Best of luck to all teams left in the Cup.

Real sorry to read that, hope the lad can keep his spirits up while he recovers. We lost our central defender, for the season, a few weeks back ... I think he's been to watch every game since, on his crutches! Could happen to anyone, so hope your club rallies round him. It's the work situation, much more than the football, that's a concern when this happens.

Best wishes to your lad.
