The short answer is an emphatic NO.....
Mount Barker will be fielding teams in the Collegiate League next season and beyond as part of the clubs future plans.
The entrance into the Federation competition is an extension of the clubs growth and will be based mainly on incremental growth in the area rather than just triage of 3 teams from the existing club structure.

The entry and participation in the Collegiate Competition has been the absolute catalyst for the clubs growth since moving from the SAASL and its the clubs absolute intention to retain a significant footprint in this competition for the years to come!

There is a lot more to come on this move by the club but the growth of population and soccer in the hills has underwritten this step in the clubs history and will be the start of another chapter of growth and development of players, facilities and the like which will make Hills soccer more competitive over time....

Its a huge challenge and not been taken lightly but don't fret... you will still be able to make that much loved journey up the hill int he driving rain next season and beyond :)

Good on Mt Barker for doing this, though I hope other CSL clubs don't follow suit.

Where will Mt Barker's State League teams play? At the ground on the other side of the freeway from Cornerstone?

Grounds are still under debate and that will become clearer later in the year...
The entry requirements for SL1 are much more relaxed than the higher echelons and so grounds are less of an issue than most think for that level.
It all changes if you are promoted though and want to play NPL1 or 2.
There is a lot of focus on the area from the FFSA, Councils etc on developing the sporting infrastructure for the future growth and I wouldn't be surprised to see a regional centre such as West Lake Shores up there in the short / medium term with land readily available and it being a regional / growing area.
It will be a tough few years to get it up and running but the desire / heart is there to do it and the facilities are slowly getting there to allow it with the club having full floodlit training facilities for all players...
The alleged tyranny of distance is actually our friend as the growing population want to stay local and this will continue for as long as we can keep those new fangled motor cars away from the hills ;) The horses don't like having to take players into the city for training twice a week!!

I think Mt Barker have a long term plan for their current and future juniors. Having a CSL footprint along with a State League footprint, will give many players a choice and not move down the slope to the city. (tough on the parents twice a week).

If the council and FFSA tip money into grassroots football, then the facilities will great for the future for hills football and the growth of the sport..

Good Luck MBUSC.
