CSL Representative Football appears to have returned as Football Federation SA is pleased to announce the Interstate Club Challenge, an annual tournament launched in partnership with Football West, which will see SA’s best take on WA’s best, reviving football’s interstate rivalry.  The Interstate Club Challenge will be held in Perth during October this year, with FFSA to host the 2013 tournament.

The annual event will see FFSA’s 2012 Devine Super League Champions, Adelaide Airport Women’s Premier League Champions and the winner of a play-off between the Collegiate League Champions and Regional Champions do battle against their equivalent teams from Football West.  Both FFSA and Football West have committed funding for air travel and accommodation.

FFSA CEO Michael Carter said the initiative had been in development for a couple of months and will prove to be a rewarding venture.  “FFSA and Football West have always enjoyed a good working relationship. This annual event adds extra value to winning the relevant competitions,” he said.  Football West CEO Peter Hugg applauded the initiative and is looking forward to the annual tournament.  “We are very pleased to be able to participate in this initiative and we look forward to welcoming the three successful teams from South Australia to Perth in October later this year,” he said.  “For the relevant teams who qualify through their respective competitions, this will be a chance to both celebrate a successful season and to pit themselves against their counterparts from the other state – a new challenge that I am sure all players and teams will relish.”

To all 60 teams across 6 Divisions the CSL Exec Committee would like to wish everyone involved good luck for season 2012.

Please stay tuned to CSL website this season for updates on results, tables, goalscorers, yellow/red cards, player registration details for club delegates and of course all relevant club information.

We are hoping to have results and tables updated by Saturday Night/Sunday at the latest as normal. This season we are also trying to have a preliminary yellow/red card count and goalscorer count by Monday nights that then will be checked and updated on a Wednesday Night.

Finally we will be looking for more content to go up on the website throughout the season so come by often as we want to keep the site as up to date and interesting as possible.

The Cup Holders and Runners Up , Unley (3) and Windsor Gardens (2A) respectively see byes through to Cup Rd 2 along with the Division 1A Champions Sacred Heart (1A) and League Runners Up Mercedes (1A).

That then leaves 56 teams across 6 Divisions to battle it out on High School, College and University pitches all over Adelaide this Saturday. The biggest tie to start the year is Rostrevor (1A) at home to Pembroke (1A) in an early Division 1A showdown.  At the same ground Unley (1B) the title holders for their division take on Rostrevor (1B) in another interesting tie.

Division 2A sides Scotch and Norwood will also battle it out in a tough match up.  In the remaining fixtures there are many rivalries continued after promotion and relegation may have conspired to end them for a year at least.  The CSL hopes that over the coming seasons new rivalries as well as derby games will develop and can be added to by this great tournament. If any clubs need any excuse to challenge for the CSL Cup just look at the previous winners in Rostrevor (1B) in 2003, Windsor Gardens (3) in 2010 and of course Unley (3) having won last season.

With the new season upon us and the CSL Executive Committee would like to wish all teams good luck in the CSL Cup this season.  In the coming weeks the CSL website will be showing results, tables, fixtures, club features, suspensions, documents and eventually updated archives of the CSL also.

Regarding the CSL Website we have updated some of the relevant documents for 2012 and they are now downloadable on the DOCS page. The Important Dates Bar on the right of the screen is also updated and will continue to be as fixtures and leagues are finalised in late February. Over the coming weeks the site will be gradually updating all club information, adding more relevant documents and also resetting results from last season.

The FFSA have also released their fixtures for 2012 in State, Premier and Super League if you wish you can download them in PDF format here.

On Friday the 28th of October the CSL Presentation Night was held at the Pavilion Function Centre.  A good time was had by all 90 odd guests.

On the night the CSL also celebrated its 30th Season by inducting 3 Honorary Life Members into the CSL. To recognise these individuals for their time and effort was a first for the league and its something that we hope to add to in the coming seasons of the CSL.

Thank you to all who attended the night as it was filled with some close award counts, great nostalgic speeches and a terrific atmosphere. Well done to all on the night as we celebrated the end of another season and gave the delegates, players, executive committee and guests a chance to catch up and have some fun after all the hard work of an excellent season.
